Herstblauf HTT 11/ Barcelona/ Energy balls

On the Day of German Unity I partook in a race in the town where I work. I had signed upfor 40 schoolkids to run there as well on the childrens course. We were happy about having won the cup for the school with most running kids and many of them ranked on one of the first places in the agegroup. Right after noon I myself was on the starting line to run the 10k race. After 4 min I was ahead of the rest of the runners and ran past the fronting mountainbike the rest of the race. I got in as first at 38:23, which is 1 minute faster than my last years result in this race. It was a perfect day!

German speaking people can click on here to find a newspaper report.

Here you can see me on the right side and on the pic in the middle are many of my kids form school.

So I am ought to put a recipe for energy balls online, so here is mine:
What you need:
-a bowl
-a handheld electric mixer

ingredients:
- dates/ figs (optional)/ dried gojiberries
- ground nuts/ almonds
- any plant milk (makes it easier to shred the dates/figs)
- agave syrup/mulberry syrup/whatever needed to make it sweet
- wheat germs/ flour (if the dough is too moist)/ protein powder (if balls are postworkout treat)
- maca powder
- linen seed/ chia seeds
- desiccated coconut

The base of my energy balls are usually the dates. They are quite hard to shred, so I use some milk (oat, soy, whatever).
So dates and some milk in the bowl first, add the figs and shred these first. Once you have some sort of dough you can just add all the other ingredients and use the mixer.
If the dough is too dry add more plant milk or just water (I once used peppermint water).
If the dough is too humid, use some flour (I use spelt wholegrain, because it taste a lot like nuts), soyflour or proteinpowder.

Once the texture seems good to form little balls, do that.
Put desiccated coconut in another bowl and put 1-3 balls inside this bowl with the desiccated coconut and and shake gently until the balls are completely covered.
Ready!

Play around with the ingredients! I have once added sprouted germs, dried bananas, cacao, etc. Feel free to try, see what you like and what does you good, but go ahead and do it! It doesn't only taste good, it also does good to your body and feels great to eat completely handcrafted stuff that would cost so much a health food store.

I also went to my fave city again: Barcelona!
This time I made one another dream of mine come alive! I ran through the mountains near the monastery of Montserrat! For the first 725m we took the Aeri de Montserrat (cable car) together. While my girls took the cog railway to get higher in the mountains on the paths to the ermitages I just followed the little paths upwards. Amazing nature to be seen there.

Workout station on the beach
I love running in the cty as well. The beachside front is amazing to run. The little adults playground is nice to work out. I love running topless in October!!!

This time I have also seen an amazing spot to run near the Zona Universitaria. It looked as if 500 sporty students went running there on a footpath next to a big avenue.

Of course I had to go swiming in the ocean, despite the high number of jellyfish. I didn't swim very long though.
Visiting the ruins of Ullastret (an Iberian settlement from pre-roman times)
First day in Sitges... only nice women around me :-)
Getting a mexican skull tattoed on my knee by my friend Joan Cinder. Contact him if you're in Barcelona and wanna get tattooed.

Another impression of Port Lligat, where Dali liked to live because it was pure! Sea, wild coast, poor fishermen, almost no stress. Perfect surrounding for a great artist.

No Müsli at home? Here is what I did!
Selfmade Müsli: apple, banana, wheat germs, flaxseeds, ground hazelnuts, gojiberries, macapowder, ginger, cinnamon, chiaseeds, oatflakes, a saladseeds mix (pine, pumpkin, sunlfower seeds), desiccated coco

Veggie Athlete Jasmin/ my band in Turkey/ new vegan Cafe/

My training partner Jasmin ran the last half marathon before the Cologne Marathon in October!
Congrats on the result!!! Yeah!
Since the sports season is more or less over I can rest a little or enjoy finer things in life again.
Yesterday I went to see my friends Deathb4Dishonor play in Cologne and I also put up a merchbooth for the HardcoreHelpFoundation

So my band is about to play 2 Shows in Istanbul due to my friend Emre and his reunited band Radical Noise. I have always dreamed about flying to Istanbul and seeing them pla but now I am honored to even play with them. I cannot wait!!!

Show in Istanbul
Show in Ankara

Together with a few friends I hung out in Wuppertal and got introduced to Falafely. As the name implies it is a falafelplace that has vegan options. Nice and tasty. Check it out while you're in Wuppertal.
I am also very happy about having eaten the catering from Seasons in Gelsenkirchen-Buer. It is an organic, wholefoods cafe/restaurant. I just need to check out the cafe itself, since I have only eaten their food at a festival I have played with my band. Needless to say I am always happy when I find out about vegan spots in my area.

My girlfriend went to a veggie-fare in Düsseldorf where my friend Björn did a cookery show.
She was kind enough to bring me a vegan organic bar. After having tried this I ordered some other bars of that brand and all of them were amazing!!! Found it very easy to eat "active greens" bar while on my bike during my long distance triathlon.
The box of 18 "chocolaty choc chip" was gone after 3 days. So,so delicious!!!
I figured out it would be too expensive to eat too much of these every day so I have tried to make soe chocolate energy balls on my own and the result was tasteful, vitalizing and healthy:
Dried dates, spelt whole flour, wheat germs, mulberry sirup, agave nectar, dried bananas, flax seeds, cacao powder, chia seeds, ground almonds, soymik, peanut butter, maca powder: The energy ball is in the middle!
Finally new "Veggie Athletes" shirts are in the making. Due to several circumstances it had taken very long, but they will soon appear in the "Alles-vegetarisch.de" shop again.
You can also buy the organic foodbars there!

Vacation to Flufffest/ Austria/ Italy + moving/ Training July 19th-August 4th

Long time no post. We had to move out of our old apartment into another own I am buying. So we really had to struggle to bring everything from the old apartment to the new until friday July 20th, because that was the day we wanted to leave for Flufffest in Rokycany/Czech Republic.
It is always nice there, the food on the fest is 100% vegan and the variety is amazing. From raw cakes, over french fries to chili con soja and pancakes.
I have really liked the raw cakes and little ufos which seemed to have a lot of energy, comparable to these here:
My friends Max and Dominik sold their zines again and had the idea to form a running group for saturday and sunday morning at 9. So yeah... on saturday I had to lend one pair of shoes to Chris from Oslo and so we were 9 people running and working out a little. Best way to start the day. After this we had breakfast. I have brought my Babymüsli, which I have prepared with boiled water.
Max upgraded it with sunflower and pumpkin seeds and nuts I think. I also chopped a banana and made it a delicious yet healthy and vitalizing breakfast since I had 3 hours to ride on my bike. I always like to ride on the calm streets of Bohemia: Hills, fields, forests... and just a few people.
Bohemian fields
I rode my bike towards Kralovice and then thought I could just try to get to Pilzen from there and then back to the Flufffest. Right outside of Kralovice I have seen this here:
Marianska Tynice (a former pilgrimage)
I had moved on towards Pilzen and had to cycle through Plasy. It was like 6 min downhill and I had passed another monument:
Kläster Plasy
I went on towards Pilzen, read a map to see where to go and cycled further on.
10 km before Pilzen it rained so hard I wanted to stop. 2 min later I had a flat tyre and had to stop to change tires. It had gotten very cold now and the rain on my skin and not moving much made it even worse.
I even called my friends to ask them to pick me up until another cyclist passed me by, so I went on my bike again and cycled off. The raining became less after the 20 min I had waited. I got back to the festivalsite after 93km with ups and downs. haha
